Queen of our hearts

1952-2022

Queen Elizabeth II was not only the Queen of England and other commonwealth realms, but was also "Queen of our hearts". On September 8th 2022 her reign sadly came to an end which resulted in immense media coverage all around the world. The Times have portrayed Queen Elizabeth with an almost “God Like” image. This is emphasised with the artificial lighting as it has connotations to heaven and the Queen resembles an angel. This is extremely effective as the heartbroken citizens of Britain viewed the Queen as someone to look up to for guidance and hope, as though she was the angel of people's hearts. In addition, it is interesting that “The Times” have chosen to use a younger picture of the Queen as opposed to a relatively new one. It could be interpreted that this is because they want to show her in her youth when she was young and thriving so that the audience are reminded that she lived a long happy life. In addition, the format gravitates the attention of the audience as there is only one important image to focus on which gives it more depth and meaning.
